Schefter also passes along that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys will rework the contracts of DTs Kenny Clark Quinnen Williams and Osa Odighizuwa who are scheduled to count around $63 million against the cap. With the new cap set at $301.2 million the Cowboys had negative-$56.1 million in cap space. These moves help Dallas become compliant and have money to work with this offseason. Yesterday 3:49 pm | Pickens won`t report to team until deal reached `Don`t expect him to sign the tag yet` Rapoport continues. `I would also wonder if there is another team that wants to give a premium draft pick and sign Pickens to a long-term deal themselves.` Pickens clearly put himself in the WR1 stratosphere last year but we`d be surprised if a team was willing to give up a first-round pick for Pickens in addition to a major extension. SFFL Slant: The transaction is confirmed by Patrik Walker of the team`s official site. The non-exclusive franchise tag will allow Pickens to negotiate with other teams beginning with the start of the legal tampering period March 9 but it will also allow Dallas the right to match any offer extended to the breakout wide receiver. As with any franchise tag option both sides will still have until mid-July to negotiate a potential multi-year deal and Cowboys ownership has continually expressed a desire to keep Pickens around long-term. If no long-term extension is finalized Pickens will be slated to play out the 2026 campaign on a fully guaranteed one-year $28.8 million contract per K.D. The North Carolina product inked a one-year deal with the Cowboys in March of 2025 after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Broncos and he enjoyed a breakout season in his first year with Dallas when he turned 252 carries into 1 201 yards and 11 touchdowns while catching 35 passes (on 51 targets) for 137 yards and two scores over 16 regular-season games.
